Custom Cut Sapphire Heart with a Custom Made Sterling Silver Pendant

Description I made this pendant out of some 14 gauge sterling silver wire especially for this one of a kind gemstone that I cut in a one of a kind design. I love You is the name of this design and it is the first time I have cut it. The design is by John Hamer and he designed this heart to give to his wife. He wanted a round gemstone with a more subtle heart fitting for his wife. He thinks the heart shaped stone is more for the younger ladies and wanted a stone which displayed the same sentiments but in a more private and personal manner. I like it and I hope you do too.

I have cut this design in a big 12mm 6.94 carat lab created pink sapphire. I am including an 18 inch sterling silver chain.

This pendant stone is cut in yag. If you are not familiar with yag it is the material of choice of celebrities and movie stars to reproduce there expensive jewelry. They wear the reproductions and keep the 6 figure jewelry in the safe. The jewelers I cut stones for all want a simulant of Tanzanite and Emeralds. I put this stone on the counter of a jewelry friend without saying anything and the first words out of his mouth was "this sure is a pretty piece of Tanzanite". Yag is singly refractive, very bright and with high hardness and this color has the color change of Tanzanite too. It is brighter than Tanzanite but more durable and the color change from blue to violite is sweet. You can have the look of thousands for less than $100 in silver. This stone is usually set in gold but since I am just starting to sell on Etsy I decided to set this one in silver. You will not be disappointed in this piece.

I like cutting natural rough but the exotic lab created material sure is pretty. A lot of cutters like myself cut clear yag for a diamond substitute. It is much better than mossanite in my opinion. CZ dominates the diamond simulant market but it is much too brittle for a ring stone.

The stone is 8mm in a square cut that weighs 3.53 carats set in sterling siver.

I cut these stones from and old supply of river worn Topaz rough I bought years ago. The best compliment I have had on this design cut from Topaz was a Jewelry friend of mine who said "these shine better than my diamonds". They are lively and sparkle a lot but do not have the "CZ look". More classy than CZ.

The Topaz gemstones are 8.5mm in diameter and weigh 4.74 carats set in sterling silver in dangle style earrings. I have special priced these earrings for someone special.

This is a great design for the Holidays. The Star in the pavilion was left frosted for a better effect. This design was in the Gem & Mineral magazine last month. It is called Many Facets because it has 96 facets (cuts) in it. I cut this design in Good Quality Brazilian Quartz. It is rated as a VS stone, the inclusions are not visible to the eye without magnification. The gemstone weighs 4.38 carats and is big 12mm is size. I have set the stone in Sterling Silver and included a 18" chain.

Portuguese OreVerde

Description

The Portuguese cut has outstanding scintillation with all the 145 facets I cut in this stone. This is a exceptionally clean piece of OreVerde and is just outstanding in person. The gem seems to be alive with all the movement going on inside. Picture do not do this gem justice but I did the best I could taking the pictures. On some of the pictures the gem seems to be dark in the center but that is not the case. It is very bright.

The Pendant is Sterling Silver and the Gem is 12mm in diameter and weighs 5.87 carats.

I decided to cut blue today not that I am having a blue day but blue is one of my favorite colors. These are man made Spinel rough that I have made Blue Star Gemstones out of. They would have been out of the ground spinel but the rough I wanted was going to cost me a house so I decide on man made. Like a good friend of mine says, if you need vitamin C you can drink orange juice or take a man made vitamin C pill and get the same result. This is what AAAA grade Spinel looks like in a custom cut design without costing a small fortune. I am like the majority of people, I do not have a $100,000 to spend on Gems but I know what they look like. Spinel and Sapphire are very similar in brillance, hardness and is a very tough gemstone.

These dangle earrings have 2 8.6mm stones that weigh 5.71 carats. The settings are sterling silver. I have included some photos of the stages of creating rough stones into precious jewelry someone can enjoy.
